General

  • Yes, Cornerstone is dual-accredited by Christian Schools International and Cognia and has an annual review process to show progress towards school goals.

  • Drop off begins at 7:40 am and the school day begins at 8:00 am. Grades K-6 students dismiss at 2:45 pm and Grades 7-12 dismiss at 3 pm.

  • Yes, Cornerstone students adhere to a dress code. Uniform tops (which include shirts, pullovers, sweaters and zip ups) must be purchased at Risse Brothers School Uniforms. Shoes must be black, blue, white, or gray, brown or a combination of the two colors. Students may not wear shoes that expose any portion of the foot. This includes crocs/foam runners, slides, or sandals.

  • Cornerstone does not provide home to school transportation. Cornerstone is in close proximity to several bus stops and metro stations. DC students may request a SmarTrip card which allows them to ride the Metrobus, Metrorail or the DC Circulator while traveling in the District for free. Cornerstone does provide transportation to all off-site, after school athletics programs.

  • Families can enroll students in a 4-day per week, hot lunch program for a cost of $10 per month per meal. Students receive J&J Tex-Taqueria on Mondays, Mama's Pizza on Tuesdays, Chick- fil-A on Wednesdays and Silver on Thursdays. Cornerstone is working towards a 5 day per week hot lunch program for the 2024-25 school year along with a breakfast pantry so all students have food access each morning.

  • Cornerstone offers our on-campus Lion’s Den aftercare program for K-8 students from 3:00-6:00 pm for a weekly fee. Parents can have students attend daily or on a drop-in plan. Cornerstone does not provide before school care. Cornerstone offers a variety of after school athletics programs and provides transportation to and from the facilities for most programs. Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy and Life Pieces to Masterpieces provide transport to their free after-school programs, and the Washington Tennis and Education Foundation provides a free after school program with parent transportation.

  • While we serve a wide range of students, as a smaller school, we are not equipped to effectively serve most students with an active IEP, 504 plan or who are significantly below grade level.

  • Students and Staff are not required to mask at school, but can voluntarily choose to mask at any time. Cornerstone monitors any illness closely and adheres to CDC guidelines to ensure health and safety of our students and families.

 

Student Life

  • Kindergarten through 12th grade. All Kindergarten students must be at least five years old by August 30 to be considered for a spot.

  • 180 students attend Cornerstone for the 23-24 school year.

  • The maximum class size for Grades K-8 class is 20 students and for Grades 9-12 class the maximum class size is 18. The current student-teacher ratio is 14:1.

  • Cornerstone continues to grow our athletics program and currently offers basketball (Boys and Girls, Grades 6-12), cheer (Girls Grades 1-6); Soccer (Co-Ed, Grades 3-6); and volleyball (Girls, Grades 7-12). We are looking to add flag football, track, and tennis teams over the next year. We partner with Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy, Fort Dupont Ice Rink, and WTEF Tennis Center.

  • All students receive college and life preparation classes beginning in freshman year, and parents are engaged in the college process starting in freshman year. Cornerstone offers the PSAT and SAT and SAT-preparation classes on our campus. Students participate in on-site college trips and college fairs in their Junior and Senior Years. All High school students participate in College and Career Month each April, and connect to guest speakers throughout the year. Cornerstone high school graduates with a 3.5 GPA in High School are eligible for a $22,000 scholarship dispersed over the four years of college.

  • There are a variety of opportunities at Cornerstone for families to serve which may include but are not limited to chaperoning for field trips, assisting with picture day, helping at sporting events and aiding during field day.

 

Tuition

  • $11,250 for K-8 and $16,900 for 9-12.

  • Yes, a DC Opportunity Scholarship covers full tuition for a student and provides a $150 uniform card. The OSP scholarship does not cover aftercare, lunch, sports or any additional programming. Additionally, all DC residents must apply for the scholarship to determine eligibility.

  • Most families do receive tuition assistance or OSP, and we encourage families to pursue Cornerstone if our mission aligns with your family's goals. Cornerstone offers a robust tuition assistance program for qualifying families. It is important to apply for tuition aid as soon as possible to receive a generous amount of financial aid. Applications that are received late in the summer may result in families not receiving as much tuition assistance as requested.

 

Faith

  • Yes, all staff are required to affirm the Cornerstone Statement of Faith and commit to living a faithful Christian life.

  • No. Parents or students are not required to affirm our Statement of Faith. Families are fully informed that Cornerstone is a Christian school and agree to their students receiving a Christian education.
