At Cornerstone, our mission is to prepare students for this life and for the life to come. One part of preparing them for life is ensuring they are prepared for college by the time they graduate from our high school program. After graduating six senior classes, we have noticed that most start college, but many do not finish. In talking to graduates who are no longer enrolled in college, finances have been the number one reason.

Through the help of some generous friends, we established the Cornerstone College Scholarship to help combat this obstacle to getting a college education and to motivate our students throughout their high school career as well. Any graduating senior who meets the requirements for the scholarship receives $10,000 that can be applied to tuition, room and board, or even textbooks!

To be eligible for this scholarship, students must

  • have attended Cornerstone for all four years of high school,

  • have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher,

  • have plans to pursue a degree at an accredited, post-secondary institution the fall after they graduate from Cornerstone.

Eligible students write and submit a paper answering the question, “What does Cornerstone mean to me?” and any student who meets the eligibility requirements and reflects the values of Cornerstone receives the scholarship.

The first ever recipients of the Cornerstone College Scholarship are Amaria and Solé, who graduated Valedictorian and Salutatorian of the class of 2019. Amaria is using her scholarship to attend University of Dayton and Solé is using hers to attend Xavier University of Louisiana. We asked them to record a reflection on their first semester of college. You can hear their thoughts below!
