Helping Cornerstone Students Pay for College!
This year on Giving Tuesday, we are focusing our efforts on fully funding our College Scholarship Program. As any of you who have recently attended or sent a student to college know, college is expensive. While our students are often eligible for need-based tuition assistance, there are still a number of additional costs to getting their degree. According to the Department of Education, 72% of all African American students go into debt to pay for their undergraduate degree and, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, those students still owe an average of 114% of those loans after 12 years.
To begin to close this gap, we have offered a $10,000 scholarship to our high-achieving seniors in our last two graduating classes. Not only does this help cover the costs for our students going to more expensive schools, but we also pray that it is a reminder to younger students that maintaining their GPA will be important when it comes time to apply to college.
This Giving Tuesday, which falls on December 1st this year, we ask that you give toward our college scholarship fund. Thanks to a generous donor who shares a passion for helping our students get their college degrees, all donations up to $10,000 will be matched! You can make a gift below or by sending a check to PO Box 76456, Washington, DC 20013 with “college scholarship” in the memo line.
